Privacy Policy
Last updated November 1, 2026
The short version
- DocuBible collects only what it needs to save your notes and keep you signed in.
- Your notes are private to your account. We don't sell your information, show ads or use your notes to train AI.
- You can delete your account, and everything in it, yourself at any time.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and password (stored scrambled, never in plain text). If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email address.
- What you create: notes, notebooks, highlights, themes, questions, links between verses, your reading place and your settings.
- The chapters you've read and when, so your Year in Review can show them. This is a chapter reference and the translation, never the text. You can turn it off or clear it in Settings.
- The days you opened DocuBible while signed in: a date only, no time, page or address.
- Messages you send us: the name, email address, subject and message you enter in the contact form.
- Your internet address, briefly: we use it to stop spam on the contact form and to apply the daily reading limits on the licensed translations. These counts are kept for a day at most and are not linked to your account.
- Reading totals: for the translations used by permission (NASB, Amplified, NIV, NIrV, NIV UK, NLT and ESV) we count how many chapters are opened each month, because their publishers ask for usage figures. It is one number per translation per month, with nothing about who read what. (Biblica, the NIV's publisher, takes its figures from YouVersion rather than from us.)
What we don't collect
- No advertising or tracking cookies, and no analytics service following you around the site or across other sites.
- Reading Bible text without an account leaves nothing tied to you.
- Because we don't track you across sites or let others do so, DocuBible works the same whether or not your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal.
How we use it
- To run DocuBible: save your work, keep you signed in, and show your notes back to you on any device.
- To send emails you need, such as sign-in codes and password resets, and to answer your messages.
- To keep the site working and fair: stopping spam and abuse, and keeping within each publisher's limits.
Who helps us run it
A few companies handle information on our behalf, only to provide their service to DocuBible:
- Supabase stores your account and everything you create, on servers in the United States.
- Cloudflare carries the site to your browser and runs the short 'are you a person?' check on some forms.
- Resend delivers our emails.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Licensed Bible text is fetched from its publishers (YouVersion for the Lockman Bibles and Biblica's NIV, NIrV and NIV UK; Tyndale for the NLT; Crossway for the ESV) by our server, not your browser, so they don't receive your account details. Nothing about you is passed to any Bible publisher.
When we would share it
- Only when the law requires it (for example a valid court order), or to protect people's safety or the site from abuse. If someone demands your information, we'll tell you first unless the law forbids it.
- If DocuBible were ever handed to someone else to run, your information would go with it under this policy, and we'd tell you before anything changed.
How long we keep it
- Your account and notes, for as long as you keep your account.
- Deleted notes and notebooks stay in the Recycle Bin for 30 days so you can get them back, then they are erased.
- When you delete your account, it and everything in it are erased straight away (the Recycle Bin is skipped). Backups held by our storage provider roll over within a few weeks.
- Contact-form messages stay in our inbox until we no longer need them to help you.
Your choices and rights
- See and change your information: everything you've written is in your account, and you can edit it at any time.
- Take a copy: you can export your notes.
- Delete it: delete notes one by one, or your whole account from Settings.
- Ask us: for anything else, such as a copy of what we hold about you, use the contact form and choose 'Privacy or data request'. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California) you may have further rights under local law, and we'll honour them.
Security
- Your information travels over an encrypted connection, and each account can reach only its own notes. No system is perfectly secure, though; if a breach ever affected your information, we would tell you.
Children
- DocuBible is not meant for children under 13, and they may not create an account. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Storage in your browser
- DocuBible keeps a few small items in your browser to keep you signed in and to remember your settings and reading place. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
Changes to this policy
- If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell signed-in users before it takes effect.
